Rock Paper Scissors - Alice Feeney
This is actually a first time read for me with this author. This was our
book club pick for this month and wow I am so glad it was. I honestly
can not rate this book lower than a 5 star. I would rate it higher if I
could. It had everything I wanted in a thriller. The drama, the
excitement, great plot and amazing characters.
The best part was
the way the author leads you down a specific path, you are following it
religiously, you are sure you have it figured out, and then, before you
know it, that path leads in a completely different direction. I also
love how you feel when you finally think that everything is figured out
and you begin to breathe a little easier, and you are thinking wow that
was great, then BAM something else happens leaving you reeling.
Everything was great in this story. I look forward to more Alice Feeney
books in my near future.

The Last Time I Lied - Riley Sager - 4.5 stars
WOW WOW WOW...*GOBSMACKED* At first I thought the ending was going to be
quite disappointing for me, but..... I was pleasantly surprised when
the author wrapped it up differently than I thought. It was starting to
feel rather unfinished for me as i neared the end. *BAM* I was slapped
in the face with the perfect ending to the book.
I really
enjoyed the plot of this book, which is why I picked it up in the first
place and I wanted to read something by this author. I thought that
there was quite a bit of mystery surrounding the story, both past and
present and I found the author trying to fool us as readers a few times.
LOL I found myself working pretty hard trying to figure out what was
going on, who are the bad people and who are not.
I loved the
characters in this story as well. My favorite was of course the main
character, Emma. I loved the way she interacted with other people, how
she was confident and unafraid to speak what she thought, regardless of
her past or present. I also like how she stuck to her guns and did not
give up in her quest to find the answers she was seeking to this mystery
of 15 years ago. It really made her an ideal character for me.
I
will definitely read more from this author in the future. I love how
fluid and engaging his writing style is. He can definitely keep readers
glued to the pages from start to finish.

The Girl in the Mirror - Rose Carlyle
This book gave me one of those deep rooted WTF moments! The ending of
this book, I thought was going to be very predictable, instead, I got
the shock of my life! OMG! I just can't wrap my ahead around it. Let's
start at the beginning...
I felt like the beginning started out
kind of slow, and this was because the author wanted to set up this
absolutely, crazy, family dynamic. he wanted readers to learn about the
characters also as individuals, who they are, what they want...so I
understand the slow build up in the story, it made it worth it. And when
I say crazy family dynamic, I really mean it.
The characters are
also pretty crazy in this book, but I really enjoyed just about all of
them for who they were and they were all such a hot mess it was
laughable at times. When you read the top portion of the synopsis where
it says: "Identical Twins. One wants what the other has. How far will she go to get it?" Choose wisely.
Thriller Thursday - A new Segment
The first book featured for thriller Thursday is the book called The family Across the Street, by Nicole Trope. Her is my review for that book:
Oh my goodness, no words for this books. One of those stories where the
ole saying "Never judge a book by it's cover comes into play full swing.
Definitely and on the edge of your seat thriller with a killer plot and
an unbelievable plot twist that I never saw coming.
The author
can spin a very breath taking and dramatic story. Her writing is very
fluid and makes it hard to put the book down! I loved every minute of it
even though I thought the police active really stupid.
**There could be triggers in this book for some people.

Jar of Hearts - Jennifer Hillier - 4 stars
This was a great book. It flowed so well. The writing is very fluid.
Plenty of drama to keep readers attention through the whole book, so
that was great. Now, I do understand why the author ended the book the
way she did, maybe for a bit more drama, a bit more punch to the story,
however, I wish it had been ended a little bit different, a little more
realistically.
The plot was great, and very engaging. I did
figure out the twist of the tale before readers were made aware of it,
so that was a little disappointing, but it was kind of made obvious so I
am sure many readers had figured it out. The characters were pretty
darn good and had decent backstory, so that made the characters very
realistic and believable.
Overall, great thriller with just
enough punch, that is definitely worth the read. I look forward to
reading more of her books in the future.

3. The Tanglewood Tea Shop - Lilac Mills - 2 prompts

Series-a-thon was a sucess
So I did complete the whole Throne of glass series by May 31, 2022. I have never read a series that was made so fresh with each and every book. I felt no dread starting a new book of the series and I was sad when each book was over, especially when it was the last book.
I love Sarah's writing style so much. It is so fluid and captivating. Hard to stop turning the pages, and before you know it, you have finished a book. Her imagery is masterful. The world building is just amazing and beautiful. The characters are breath taking. It is really hard to pick a favorite character when each one is so different, crafted with their own unique personalities. They are all flawed and quirky, they each have their own pros and cons, yet they can all seem to come together and form alliances that can put the best friendships to shame.
Just beautiful writing, I loved every minute of this reading journey. I am sad that it is over. I so look forward to her other series that I have yet to read. Sarah, don't ever stop writing!

Throne of Glass series - Continued Series-a-thon
Ok so I just finished book 4 in my series-a-thon of Throne of Glass. Oh my goodness, these books just get better with each and every one that I read. Why on earth did I wait this long to read such an amazing series? IDK, but I am so glad that I am reading it now.
There is really nothing more I can say about the books in this series.
They just get better with every book I read. The world building never
ceases, bringing to readers a new elegance with every new book they read
in the series.
I enjoy how the author tricks the readers into
believing one thing, yet giving them something else entirely. Many times
I had a 'gasp' that tuned into a 'whew.' If that makes any sense. We
just get something new with every book, and I love that, never a dull
moment.
The characters are so great that I can't even decide on a
favorite. All of them have their flaws, their quirks, their pros and
cons, but somehow in the middle of all of their differences, they come
together, and they conquer. Truly the best series I have read to date.
"You make me want to live too, not exist, but live."

Throne of Glass Series-a-thon
Wow this series is so good! I just finished Crown of Midnight. So amazing. I feel like the author gets better and better with each book in the
series. I look forward to picking up the next and the next, rather than
the dread I usually feel when it comes time for reading a fantasy. The
fluidity and the flow of the story makes the books really hard to put
down, and makes me want to read well past bed time.
The plots
thickens, the mystery greater, with each book. I feel like I belong
there, in that world, that I have become a part of the story. The world
building is awesome, the imagery, just amazing. The characters are more
authentic and credible. Which makes the stories so satisfying. Our main
character gets stronger with each book, more defined and understood. I
love that.

Ugly Love - Colleen Hoover
Ok so this book was a 'spur of the moment' read was not planned in the slightest. This book may even be my favorite of hers so far. This will be the 4th one I have read by her, and all I can say is that I hope all of her books make me feel like this one did.
I loved everything about this book, the plot, the characters, the prose, just the poetic writing style overall. I feel like the author overdid herself with this one. Cap was one of my favorite characters in this story. He made so much sense, probably because he was an 80 year old man. Respect your elders, they know what they are talking about.
Now on the other hand, there are some parts to the story that can be difficult to read, and may bother some readers, and there are some parts that will just rip your heart right from your chest, but in the end, the readers will feel something.

Opposites Attract! - Camilla Isley
This is a first time read for me with this author, and I loved it. The writing is so fluid and easy to read which made for a very quick read. I really enjoyed the plot of the story, I also loved the humor and the heartfelt moments as well.
I feel like the characters start out on pretty bumpy ground with readers and with each other alike, but they are so relatable, and believable. They definitely grew on me pretty quickly. I have to say that Lucas was the favorite character for me in this one.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes light, whimsical romances with a touch of humor mixed in throughout the story. I definitely look forward to reading more from this author.

Seven Days - Alex Lake
WoW!
That was quite the story. It had everything a good thriller is supposed
to have. It was chilling, disturbing, and creepy all rolled into one. I
loved the twists and turns and right when you thought it was over, it
wasn't. So well written. It flowed well with never a dull moment.
The
plot is what sold me on reading the book in the first place. I mean a
girl who is abducted at 15 and left to survive in a basement for 12
years, baring 3 children from the monster who had abducted her. Leaving
her entire family and then left to fight for her life and the lives of
her kids. Yea it sucked me in rather quickly.
The characters were
fantastic. I loved everyone of them, even the bad guy in which you find
out who it is from the very beginning. Definitely a character that you
will love to hate. He was super delusional, wicked, disturbing and out
and out menacing. I thought every one of the characters were very
realistic, relatable, and definitely flawed. I loved seeing so many
sides of them, dealing with loss, and recovery.
I look forward to all of the author's books. Well done Mr. Lake!

Ask the Passengers - 4 stars
My favorite part of this book was really the little interludes between the pages of the story right after Astrid would send the love up through the clouds to the airplanes and the passengers on board. So very touching the thoughts she had, all the questions she posed to them, and in some weird way they heard her and it would change each life for the better.
As far as characters went, I loved Astrid the most. She seemed to have the most to lose in this story and also the most to gain. She finally laid it all out on the table while the whole time in the midst of her own turmoil she still sent love into the universe, never expecting anything back.
Be kind to others and also be more accepting of others, stop trying to makes changes that benefit nothing or that does not fit into your world.

A Great January in reading
Wow I had a great reading month in January. I ended the month with 16 books. Now Lucky for me, those 16 books were very satisfying reads for the most part. I feel like I chose them carefully with my A-Z challenge in mind. I am looking forward to a great February as well. I have my January wrap up here, if you would like to see that.
I have also subbed to several more channels on Book tube. Wow it is good to be back. Everyone is so welcoming!

The Great Alone
I am so glad I picked up this book. I love Kristin Hannah so much, this is probably my favorite of her books now, and I have read so many of them. I can't get enough of her stuff. Her writing is breath taking. Had to take a couple of pauses due to intensity of the story. Anyway here is my review of the book.--
I mean what can I say really? I never worry when I read a Kristin Hannah
book. I am always completely in awe of her writing. This one is no
different. Such a poignant, colorful, painful, sad and happy story. A
book that I will not soon forget if ever. Kristin Hannah has a gift of
making readers feel every word printed within the pages of every book
she writes. She takes my breath away very single time, and I could not
ask for more.
She paints a beautiful picture with this story, the
imagery so breath taking and so inviting, right from the first page. I
was there in Alaska with all of them. The plot is so thought provoking
and realistic. The characters are so very relatable in this story, they
are so realistic, as if I have known them all of my life. I do have to
put the warning in here. There are triggers in this book for anyone
dealing with loss or dealing with abuse. In both cases it is pretty
traumatic, so please keep that in mind.
If you love the works of
Kristin Hannah and you have not yet read this one, please do pick it up,
you will not be sorry. Get ready to be swept away.

Keep Quiet
Well I never planned on reading this in one sitting, but it happened anyway. This is a great story even though it was a tad bit predictable, but the author follows up with a different mystery. I knew from the synopsis what was going to happen, however, the twist, I did not expect. I also enjoyed the characters and the story line, both were done superbly.
This is also a very thought provoking story. How far would you go to protect your children? I could never in a million years live with what this family lived with.

The Institute, by Stephen King
So this is definitely another favorite on the year, but of course I would not expect anything less from King. Again his characters, full of flaws, are written with realism and relate ability. This a true coming of age story, a tale of inhumanity, that matches the world today. It is also very thought provoking. I enjoyed every minute of reading this one. WTG King on another job well done.

Reading Habits are back!
Well, since retiring, my reading habits are back to normal! I am on my 4th book for this month. Fortunately for me they have all been good so far, great as a matter of fact. I am currently reading The Institute by Stephen King, one of which I thought I already read but did not. It is rocking along ok, just a little bit slow for me, but Stephen King books can be like that. Just glad that I have the time to read again.
