I have had this book for quite some time and I try and make a habit of not reading books that are super hyped up, this way you can't be too disappointed when it is not everything you expected it to be, however this book was a pretty decent read for me. I did enjoy the writing style because it is very fluid and I found the book to be quite engaging. This is the authors adult book, she also has several young adult novels as well that I would like to read.
I did expect a little more excitement when it came to her discovering that she was talking to her husband in the past. I also found that their relationship was somewhat toxic throughout the relationship, and I did not like that she took most of the blame for the problems they were having. A relationship is supposed to be 50/50 and it did not seem fair that she was the focal point of the problems. I respected her attempts to fix things by way of the 'landline' and then when she did finally come to realize that she had to make some changes to make it work.
Overall it was a good read, although a little sappy at times, but who doesn't need some sappiness once in awhile. I also think it kind of teaches the do's and don'ts of relationships. Just know that relationship problems should not be laid on the shoulders of only one person, you work as a team to make a realtionship fulfilling.
This installment was certainly better than the first one. I was so happy about that. I liked that there was so much more action in this one as well. I can't lie, it was pretty engaging and there were some 'gasp' moments and some pretty good twists that I did not expect as well. I also enjoyed how this one ended, it pushed me a bit more towards tolerating Juliette. Please read below.
The only problem I really have with this series right now is the main character Juliette. Something about her I do not like. I realize she is a 17 year old girl trying to calm the chaos in the world and maybe therein lies the problem. She is always doubting someone or something, she gets into this 'woe is me' routine that drives me crazy. She is also a little wishy washy at times. I don't know, maybe it was the authors intention to have her portray a sniveling, just out of diapers, character, but really can we grow up a bit? There is an up to all of this though, and that is how this book ended and how everything that has happened has affected and altered Juliette's attitude hopefully towards something a little more positive. How about a strong, kick ass character, who can cause an earthquake at the drop of a dime.
Now if you are looking for a full blown out war in this book, sorry to say you don't get to witness any of that, sorry if that is a spoiler, but just trying to warn readers right from the start. Maybe that will come with the next book, who knows, I guess we just wait and see. Anyway, The focus in this book, is mostly on Juliette (oh yay) and Warner. But still I am keeping my fingers crossed as I plunge into the next book, Ignite Me
Wow I don't really read a lot of Alien books. I really enjoyed The Host, about 6 years ago, so I thought it was about time for another one. So I decided to give this one a shot. This has got to be my favorite book for the year. It definitely captured my attention from the start. It is such fluid story telling, and I loved that! I absolutely loved the story here and I am so excited for the next book to be released.
This setting is a post apocalyptic, alien invaded world right here on earth. I loved the action so much. It is such an engaging story. If we were to be invaded by aliens, this is how I would see it happening. The aliens themselves are created very uniquely. Quite different from most aliens we read about.
And wow the characters!! I found that the characters were just, simply put, amazing, and they are developed so very well! I enjoyed them all so much. And for a book like this, with aliens, I thought that the characters were so believable and relatable. All of them really made me believe in aliens living among us.
There is a super great twist in the end of this book which has me biting at the bit for the next installment, which is not out yet, but I certainly hope that is comes out soon. Don't leave me hanging for too long Gabrielle!
My husband got me this series for my birthday. I thought it would be interesting to read, and now that all the hype is gone, I figured now would be the perfect time to pick it up and give it a try. For the most part I thought it was decent.
I enjoyed the story that was being told in this book, but I was hoping for more adventure and a bit more drama than I got. So that was a bit disappointing, but even so, it was still pretty engaging, making it a pretty quick read. I am impressed with the writing as well since this was the authors debut novel. Nicely done.
The characters were pretty well developed, some more realistic than others. I do hope, that as I move along through the series, these characters will continue to develop even more and become really strong characters.
I received this book from Book of the month club. I really did enjoyed the mystery there was in this story, but I was hoping maybe for a just little more. I did find that book flowed well and that is always a plus. There are two different stories that are being told here. I was hoping though, that the two stories would have somehow come together more than they did.
I really liked the characters in the story, both past and present. I think they were the best part of the story, and gave this book what it needed. All of them so different and unique and I thought that they were very well developed. I think my favorite was probably Katie. She really stood up for herself and did not take crap from anyone, but still managed to have some pretty good friendships.
Although I don't feel like the paranormal aspects of the story hurt it in anyway, I do kind of think that is was unnecessary, although some readers will probably enjoy that part of it. I really don't feel like it affected the story all that much in regards to how it progressed. I felt like it was just kind of there to maybe add a little flair to the story.
I was pretty excited to read this book, but I ended up being a little disappointed. The writing in this book flows really well, and the writer is very poetic. I just think I expected a little more after reading that synopsis, 'dragging something back from the afterlife'. I expected there to be a little more drama with Eden, Jasmine and the afterlife and I don't feel like I got that at all. I feel like this is just more about Eden dealing with what she went through.
I did enjoy Eden's character a lot. She was very likable. I also found her to be pretty relatable and believable as well. She did not portray a spoiled teenager, which I was a little worried about, so that was great. I can't handle that kind of character who is all about herself and everyone else can kiss her hind end. The romance that blossomed between her and Joe was not rushed, which was also great, and it was definitely not overdone.
For a YA Romance I guess this is pretty good. Like I said, I expected it to be much different, maybe more like a YA paranormal thriller or something along those lines.
This is book 2 of the Illuminae Files. I enjoyed this one just as much as the first. It took a little bit to get into this one at the start because there were all new characters since this one did not take place on the Hypatia like Illuminae did.
The setting for this one is on the Space Station Heimdall, in which the Hypatia is heading for. These new characters have to face the next round of assault from BeiTech. A lot of energy and excitement in this one. It seems like much more goes on in this one too, since these are humans verses humans rather than humans verses machine. So it does get pretty intense. It seemed liked the action was non stop in this installment and there is a pretty good twist in this one too.
I was a little disappointed that Kady and Ezra were not in this one and I did not think I would like the characters in this because of that. But the characters in this story really came shining through and I thought that they were just as well developed as the former cast. I really enjoyed each one of them a lot and their individual personalities. They did remind me a bit of Kady and Ezra though. I found that Nik was a bit more of a wild child than Ezra was, but I really liked that too. I would love to see all of them come together in the third and final installment.
This is a great YA Science Fiction. If you like Sci-fi and YA, then I am thinking y'all will love this one. This is a great action packed trilogy! Looking forward to getting into the last book Obsidio Soon.
