Kenney - An Urban Tale - Kalilah Coulter - 4 stars

This is book 2 to the Still Waters series and even though I did not enjoy this as much as the first one, I still found it to be very profound and captivating. This one surrounds Kenney, his life and his family before he meets Natasha. It is definitely a story of the will, survival and strength of a warrior.

In this installment we are shown a very different side to Kenney whom we first meet in Still Waters. The setting is Houston, Texas. Kenney goes through a lot of impossible crap, stuff I could never even imagine going through. Hard to believe he survived everything he went through and everything he witnessed, sure to break the strongest person. I must say though that there are some pretty dramatic and gritty scenes in this story so be prepared for that. It is definitely not for the weak at heart.

There are some of the same characters in this one like his Mama, and his Aunt Jasmine, and Kenney himself, but we also get to meet a lot of new characters as well, both good and bad, some better left alone and some thought of as heroes. All the characters are written very realistically, some you would love to meet and others not so much. I think the author did a great job creating and molding them into real people. I also enjoyed the family 'loyalty' in this book even though some of that loyalty takes a few wrong turns while others stay true.
